The Kansas City Chiefs have unveiled their Super Bowl LVIII jerseys by using a plain and obvious reference to one of Taylor Swift’s hits as she is set to travel to Las Vegas from Tokyo to watch her NFL beau, Travis Kelce, play.
The Chiefs shared a four-second clip of quarterback Patrick Mahomes brushing dust off a red home jersey with his No. 15 on it to promote their new uniforms, while he posed in the team’s usual white game pants.
‘Are you ready for it?,’ the Chiefs’ X account tweeted as a caption to the video.
Embroidered with the usual Super Bowl patch, as well as the AFC patch after last Sunday’s title win against the Baltimore Ravens, this year’s jerseys for Super Sunday will also featured an NKH patch in memory of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt’s mother — Normal Knobel Hunt. She passed away in June of last year, at the age of 85.
Knobel Hunt was also a Chiefs minority owner.
In September, the team announced that it would wear the ‘NKH’ patch in her honor throughout the season. The Super Bowl against the 49ers will not be an exception.
‘My family and I are so proud to honor our mother’s life and legacy this season,’ Clark Hunt said in a statement at the time.
‘My mom loved football, and she loved the Chiefs. She also believed in the power of sports to unite communities, and the impact sports can have on young people.’
The Chiefs’ Super Bowl matchup with the 49ers will also mark the first big game without Norma Knobel Hunt in attendance.
Before her death, she was one of the few people to have gone to every Super Bowl since the original AFL-NFL World Championship Game in 1967, according to SB Nation.
‘NKH’ managed to see her Chief in five of those, including the team’s first and last Super Bowl wins: a 35-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I (1967), and a 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII last year.
The last Super Bowl that ‘NKH’ saw in person ended up being the Chiefs’ second title in four years, as Mahomes and Co. won their first ring in 2020.
Now, the Chiefs will only hope to win in their first Super Bowl appearance since her death.
