Deontay Wilder released his first video message after his shock defeat to Joseph Parker.
On Saturday Wilder, one of boxing’s hardest-ever punchers, slumped to a surprise defeat to New Zealand’s Parker by a unanimous decision.
The Bronze Bomber looked a shadow of the fighter that had claimed 42 of 43 career wins by knockout, as the judges scored the bout 118-111, 118-110 and 120-108 in favour of Parker.
Elsewhere in Rhiyad, Saudi Arabia, Anthony Joshua boxed magnificently, dominating Otto Wallin before the Swede’s corner threw in the towel at the end of the fifth.
Saturday’s doubleheader was expected to set up a clash between Wilder and Joshua in March, but such a prospect appears less likely after the American’s stunning defeat.
Amid much talk about Wilder’s next steps, with retirement having been mooted, the 38-year-old released a video message on Instagram in which he appears to suggest he wants to continue boxing. You can watch it below.

Wilder said: “We came up short tonight. I don’t know what happened to be honest.
“My timing was off and I needed to throw more punches. I didn’t let my hands go like I was supposed to.
“Sometimes it gets like that, but you live to see another fight; you live to see another moment. That’s all that matters.
“I’m still full of happiness; I’m still full of joy; I’m still full of smiles. Sorry if I let anyone down but we’ll be back. That’s the good thing about it.
“I can’t wait to […] go back to my babies. Today is one of my daughter’s birthdays. Daddy likes you so much, baby.
“I’ll be home soon, but I thank you for all the love and support of got from my fans in Riyadh and all around the world. I appreciate you so much.
“This is not the end. I will be back.”
