Frank Bruno revealed , Tyson Fury ‘knew in his heart’ that Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis and previous heavyweights would ‘eat him for dinner’
Frank Bruno insisted the giants of his generation would ‘eat Tyson Fury for dinner’ and said the ‘Gypsy King’ is ‘living on a different cloud’.
Bruno won the WBC heavyweight world title in an era in which he had to face a gauntlet of challengers and champions, including Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Oliver McCall and even Joe Bugner.
The Wandsworth hero endeared himself to the British public with his massive heart and desire to win, traits which eventually led him to success against McCall at Wembley in 1995.
It was not to last for Bruno as he relinquished the green and gold strap to Tyson in their rematch in ’96, retiring shortly after.
Fury currently holds the WBC belt and is set to make his second defense against Dillian Whyte on April 23, after knocking out Deontay Wilder in October.
Yet Bruno believes the 33-year-old has enjoyed a far smoother ride to the top than he would have faced in previous years.
“It’s a good fight, Dillian Whyte is very powerful,” Bruno told DAZN. “Tyson Fury is dangerous and can box.
“What he’s learned, Dillian Whyte wouldn’t know, it would break him. If [Whyte] hits Fury he’ll hit the floor.
“Tyson Fury is going to show him some movements and upset him. He can adapt. If you’re southpaw he can southpaw, if you dig deep he can dig deep.
“He fought the most dangerous man on the planet, Deontay Wilder, who threw his toys out of the pram.”
However he cautioned Fury about any thoughts he has about considering himself an all-time great.
Bruno added: “He knows deep down in his heart if he was around in my day, they’d eat him for dinner.
“I’m not going to sit here and disrespect him, but we’re talking about a different era. He’s living on a different cloud to what I was on.
“He’s number one, he deserves to be number one. I’ve got a lot of respect for him.”
