Selena Gomez Alludes She Quit Social Media After Frequently Being Compared To Ex Justin Bieber’s Wife, Hailey: They Write Paragraphs That Are So Specific & Mean, I Would Constantly Be Crying

Selena Gomez is getting candid about why she took a step back from social media.

During a recent interview, the Only Murders in the Building star addressed why she took a break from social media. Selena Gomez revealed that she received hurtful comments comparing her to an ex-boyfriend’s current partner, presumably Hailey Bieber.  

Gomez explained,

“I never got the chance to go to an actual high school. The world was my high school for the longest time, and I started getting inundated with information that I didn’t want. I went through a hard time in a breakup and I didn’t want to see any of the [feedback]—not necessarily about the relationship, but the opinions of me versus [someone] else.”

She continued,

“People can call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, Whatever. But these people get detailed. They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.”

The “Calm Down” singer revealed that TikTok is the only social media platform that she has on her phone.

“The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it to be a little less hostile. There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually that’s filtered through [for me now]. I created a system.”

She added,

“Everything I do I send to my assistant who posts them. As far as comments, my team will put together a few things that are encouraging.”

As you may recall, prior to tying the knot with Hailey, Justin Bieber was in an on-off relationship with Selena Gomez for about eight years. The pair rekindled their relationship in late 2017 before officially calling it quits in early 2018. By June 2018, Justin was photographed with Hailey. And from that point on, Hailey and Justin became inseparable, with the “Peaches” artist getting down on one knee in July 2018, just months after his split from Selena.

During a previous interview, Hailey Bieber finally cleared the air on the drama surrounding her husband, Justin Bieber, and his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez. According to Hailey, she and the People You Know songstress have spoken since she married Justin and everything is “all love.”

“That’s why I’m like, it’s all respect. It’s all love. That’s also why I feel like if everybody on our side knows what happened and we’re good and we could walk away from it with clarity and respect, then, like, that’s fine.” 

She added that their chat brought her “a lot of peace” and that the three of them “know what happened.”

She continued and answered the question that seemed to be on everyone’s mind, claiming that “not one time” did she ever date Justin while he was with Selena. She continued,

“When him and I ever started, like, hooking up or like anything of that sort, he was not ever in a relationship — ever, at any point. … It’s not my character to mess with someone’s relationship, I would just never do that. I was raised better than that. I’m not interested in doing that.”
